ALS, 1777 December 5 and 6 : Quarters in Norwalk, to Thomas Mumford.

Thanks Mumford for supplies, but complains of a reduction in his troops. Details a possible action on Long Island which did indeed occur on December 10, resulting in his capture. He was exchanged a year later.

Samuel Blachley Webb was born in Wethersfield, Connecticut on December 15, 1753. His mother later married Silas Deane, whom Webb served as private secretary. In 1775 Webb was appointed aide to General Israel Putnam and in 1776 was made aide-de-camp to General George Washington, with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
